Brunvoll contracted for Nexans cable layer

Brunvoll contracted for Nexans cable layer

Ulstein has awarded Brunvoll a contract to provide propulsion and manoeuvring systems for Nexans Subsea Operations' cable lay vessel, expected for delivery in 2021.

Brunvoll will provide three azimuth propulsion units, two tunnel thrusters and a retractable bow-mounted azimuth thruster. All units are of the controllable pitch propeller type and run at a variable rpm. Operating these systems simultaneously, referred to as 'combinator control', provides benefits including improved manoeuvrability, lower noise and vibration levels aboard and transmitted into the sea and reduced energy consumption. The retractable azimuth unit, designated AR115, is the largest in Brunvoll's product portfolio.

Control, alarm and monitoring systems for all thrusters will also be provided along with Brunvoll's newest redundant bridge system, BruCon-4. The systems provided by Brunvoll will give the 150-m vessel a dynamic positioning class of DP3, allowing it to operate and maintain position in extreme weather conditions.

The vessel will be built to a ST-297 CLV design from Skipsteknisk and has been designed to reduce environmental impact in line with Nexan's corporate social responsibility policy and the company's commitment to sustainable development.
